GEORGIA FALL, 2016
Legendary journalist Hunter S Thompson once said - “Anything that gets your blood racing is probably worth doing.” The very philosophy that keeps Georgia Fall on the front foot, pushing and questioning the boundaries of the music they love.
So what is Georgia Fall? Is it a fictional name representative of a lady, a state, a season? A sound? A Style?
Described as "a fresh band with stand-out vocals and killer songs” by Golden Guitar award winner Lyn Bowtell, and “one of the hottest acts emerging on the music scene today” according to Paul Costa, Georgia Fall are definitely in good company.
Georgia Fall is a forward-thinking Country music group from a new era with a modernistic sound embodied by band mates Mellissa Baker, Paul Bain and Jason McGregor. Although the band themselves are fans of many styles, there are no crazy gimmicks here - just a passion for sexy grooves, rich harmonies and catchy hooks infused in their own Country roots.
“People often ask about our style, and I’ve always struggled to provide the truest answer” Paul comments. “I guess we like to think we sit somewhere between Fleetwood Mac, Sheryl Crow, Little Big Town and Keith Urban. But as much as we obsess over our favourite artists, we’ll always have a different sound because there is such a diverse range of musical interest across the group.”
It has been a busy and rewarding few years for Georgia Fall since the release of their debut album Love The Hard Way in January 2014, which propelled the band into the Country music spotlight yielding multiple hit singles and many welcomed achievements, including a nomination in the 2016 CMC AWARDS for NEW ARTIST OF THE YEAR hosted by Foxtels' Country Music Channel.
Off the back of Love The Hard Way's release, Georgia Fall set their sights on the road, partnering up with major sponsor NRMA Business Motoring. The band spent most of 2014 touring Australia as the support act and backing band for ARIA chart topping artist Paul Costa and CMC favourites Baylou, on the NRMA Business Motoring presents Turn Up The Heat Tour.
But the band did not stop there. Shortly after the first leg of the Turn Up The Heat Tour, they announced a second tour for the same year with Golden Guitar winner Kristy Cox and Travis List. With the support of NRMA Business Motoring once again, in addition to Jayco Australia, the NRMA Business Motoring presents Coming Home Tour was another national success.
“We love being on the road. There’s nothing better then meeting great people who love country music,” explains Mellissa. “I guess there’s just something real and true about getting out in the country and sharing your stories with your fans.”
Having toured most of Australia in 2014/15, the band has attained some incredible experiences both professionally and personally with their recent single Wish You Home proudly penned by the band, recently spending 20 weeks on the Country Tracks Chart peaking at #6. In addition to enjoying more chart success for singles, Reach The Sky and No Use For You, from the same release on Foxtel’s Country Music Channel and Country Tracks Chart, Georgia Fall’s current album Love The Hard Way debuted at #5 on the iTunes Chart.
“We are so proud of Love The Hard Way. It was such an amazing journey to undertake with our producer and close friend Sean Rudd. The album was many years in the making, having written our songs and collaborating with Lyn Bowtell, there were many worthwhile sacrifices to create something we are truly proud of today,” says Mellissa.
“When setting out to write this album we wanted a sound that would translate well to our live shows.” says Paul. Love The Hard Way’s leading single No Use For You is a great illustration of the band’s high energy approach. “We went for a huge anthemic tune driven by big guitars with a slammin' shuffle drum feel. Tying the ups-and-downs of the fairytale story together with a funky-country resonator part,” explains Paul.
“It’s a bit of a cocktail of all the cool stuff!” Mellissa exclaims.
Then there's the band’s emotional hit single Wish You Home, which is vastly contrasted against the likes of catchy country-rock anthems Anyone You Wanna Be, No Use For You, and You Never Know. Having played a favourite amongst many fans as it tributes to those who are distanced from their loved ones for any reason great or small. Wish You Home uses a rainy and bluesy tone to emote the distance and sorrow of missing those who are so close yet so far away.
"Jason was a huge part of the sound on this album, particularly on Wish You Home. His sound and style were just made for the tone of this song.” Paul recalls when commenting on Jason McGregors' addition to the band in 2015.
"I like sharing my love of music with like minded people," Jason explains. I had been a part of GF from the beginning of the recording process for this album and I really enjoyed working on Love The Hard Way. We’ve been friends for over 10 years and now to officially be part of the band, I am proud to continue and contribute to the GF success.”
“It’s so great having Jason join the Georgia Fall family. He wrote and recorded most of the signature guitar parts on the album so naturally the band dynamic has come full circle for us… it feels like home.” Mellissa states.
GF have become a festival favourite having accumulated many major milestones since their first single release I Wonder in 2012. From supporting Aussie rock legends Dragon and Daryl Braithwaite, to having their music featured on the Qantas Inflight Entertainment Playlist.
With an album about love, hope, nostalgia, and the things that move us emotionally, Georgia Fall is set to leave their mark on the music industry for years to come.
